NAVTEQ takes great pride in providing flexible licensing terms for NAVTEQ® map data. We work closely with our customers, large and small, to take into consideration particular business needs and issues, including:
In general, NAVTEQ licensing fees are based on a number of factors, including:
"Low functionality" data, used in applications such as desktop-based mapping, is generally priced lowest; "high functionality" data, such as in-vehicle navigation with turn-by-turn directions is generally priced highest. Phone-based applications and Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs) fall in between.
NAVTEQ divides its data offerings into regions: North America, Europe, and World Markets. Europe and North America may be subdivided by the amount of population within the area desired.
Certain Points of Interest (POIs), such as extended listing POIs carry a premium, as does rich content internally developed or from specialized third party providers, such as Fodor's and Zagat's restaurant guides. Similarly, traffic information is priced separately. Other special attributes can be included in the data provided to the customer for additional fees.
Licensing fees also can be determined by the number of users of the data, or if a server is used, by the number of hits to the server.
Licensing agreement terms generally range from three to five years, but we can tailor the term to meet particular customer needs.
These needs are then incorporated in a pricing model designed for each type of application. The models are:
NAVTEQ Media Pricing is for data resident on a media (CDs, DVDs, hard drives or flashcards) and used in conjunction with computer devices such as navigation systems, PCs, PDAs and other hand-held stationary or portable computer devices. Discounts are available for levels of content functionality and license terms. For example, the use of only major roads costs less than using all roads within a region.
NAVTEQ Server Licensing is for data that operates on a server and/or one or more stationary computer terminals or wireless devices connected to the server. The map data is not resident on the device. Licensing is either on a monthly subscription or per transaction, and like all models, is based on the functionality of the application.
NAVTEQ Business Solutions Pricing is for data used in GIS, Geomarketing, and Fleet/Mobile Asset Management applications. Pricing for GIS uses depends on the NAVTEQ product used, the coverage area, the number of authenticated end users, and the type of application. Fleet/Mobile Asset Management pricing depends on whether the application is deployed on the end users' site and accessed by employees of that end user or whether the application is licensed under an application service provider (ASP) deployment. Geomarketing pricing generally depends on the coverage area and the number of authenticated users.
