The Global LBS Challenge® CHAMPION Competition Coming in September!

The 2010 Global LBS Challenge will conclude this September with the Global LBS Challenge CHAMPION competition, which will be held in conjunction with the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) International Evaluation Meeting in London.

The Grand Prize Winners from each of the five regions (EMEA, North America, India, South America and APAC) will demonstrate their winning applications to a panel of judges gathered by the ESNC. One Grand Prize Winner will be crowned the 2010 Global LBS Challenge CHAMPION and will be awarded a $10,000 (USD) cash prize.

Recap of the 2010 Global LBS Challenge Winners

The following is a recap of the winners and runners-up for the 2010 Global LBS Challenge regions already completed:

EMEA

Mobilizy GmbH was the Grand Prize Winner with its mobile LBS application Wikitude Drive, a turn-by-turn navigation system based on NAVTEQ® maps that utilizes an augmented reality camera mode and text-to-speech instructions.

  • First Runner-Up: Mobitee with its GPS golf assistant, Mobitee, a golf course finder and score calculator that also determines hole distances and route guideance using NAVTEQ maps.
  • Second Runner-Up: M2Mobi with Nulaz, a social information source that allows you to see where people, places and events are located around you.

North America

Cypress Solutions Inc. was the Grand Prize Winner with its mobile LBS application VUE, a marine fleet solution that tracks tugboats, barges and log booms.

  • First Runner-Up: ZOS Communications for zhiing, a rich messaging application that enables services from social to enterprise to be layered into the lives of users.
  • Second Runner-Up: Spriv, with Spriv, an automatic Internet authentication product that prevents fraudulent use of stolen credit cards and user/password information by tying their use to the owner's mobile phone location.

India

Eterno Infotech Pvt. Ltd. was the Grand Prize Winner with its mobile LBS application NewsHunt-Local, which incorporates local search and location-based advertising with information from India’s most popular mobile news services, all in local languages.

  • First Runner-Up: MaxMobility Pvt. Ltd. for Child Tracker, a GPS and RFID-based bus tracking and child safety solution for parents.
  • Second Runner-Up: Genesys International Corp. Ltd. for GenesysGolf, a GPS-enabled smartphone range finder device for golfers.

South America

UYMobile has won the competition with their location-aware mobile application, TouristicPoint, an application for locating tourist spots that offers non-intrusive advertisements based on the user’s location. Users can find nearby services, see detailed information and photos, and receive routing information.

  • First Runner-Up: NeuroX Solutions, for I Love Recycle, that allows people to more effectively recycle materials by locating recycling stations on a map.
  • Second Runner-Up: EBECOM, for Healthroute, an app that highlights areas at risk of the mosquito that transmit dengue.

APAC

Visioglobe has won the Asia-Pacific (APAC) competition with their location-aware mobile application, Visiostreet, a navigation software solution for major cities, with routing enabled by NAVTEQ® maps and supported by NAVTEQ’s Enhanced 3D City Models.

  • First Runner-Up: PelicanCorp for their mobile application beforeUdig that helps prevent damage to underground pipes and cables as well as avoid injury to excavation contractors.
  • Second Runner-Up: B & C Electronic Engineering, Inc. for 911ETA that alerts the motoring public to nearby responding emergency vehicles, street closures, road repairs and special events.
