Master the Basics: Introduction to PositioningPositioning is the process of putting the user and their device on the map. More specifically, positioning (sometimes called 'Device Positioning' or 'Vehicle Positioning') is a software process that uses some sensor data or location signal and combines this with the map database to make the best effort to create a pair of coordinates that coincide with the map geometry. Positioning is a complicated and vital part of your location application development. NAVTEQ's Introduction to Positioning whitepaper provides you with definitions and best practices around Inputs, Outputs, and Sensors to name a few. Click here to learn more about positioning. NAVTEQ Points-of-Interest Developer GuidePoints of Interest (POIs) are geographical areas or points that can be used in navigation or other location-referenceable applications. POIs enrich applications by enabling dynamic and rich content to sit on top of the digital map. POIs can range from actual points (e.g., Washington slept here); to land areas specifically defined in terms of geography that can change little over time, such as parks or cemeteries; to (relatively) static man-made structures such as museums and monument; to more dynamic "structures" such as convenience stores and ATMs or even truly temporary events such as carnivals and fairs. The NAVTEQ Points-of-Interest Development Guide introduces you to POIs and the value they bring to your application. Click here to learn more.
