Two memorable events occurred this week in the short history of the WCA (Wireless Communications Alliance) LBS SIG, located in Palo Alto, California. On July 29, they celebrated their first year in existence, and two days earlier celebrated their first 100+ attended event, thanks to the co-sponsored NAVTEQ/Forum Nokia seminar entitled "On Deck: What`s Next in LBS?". With 135 attendees, the event was viewed by twice as many people as the previous highest attended seminar. Seminars are held on the last Tuesday of every other month. Hosted by Navteq`s Tom Tierney, guest presenters from such companies as Yahoo, Google, GeoSpot, LightPole, LiveCast Media, and APAC LBS Challenge finalist PDV (SkyMail) each showcased their LBS Applications. Navteq PDP Group members Jill Oana, Laura Diaz, and Catherine Ford met and talked with many of the attendees at and around a Navteq table. "We collected quite a few business cards for our iPod drawing," stated Oana, who also did a great job helpng organize the event, "as well as a sign up list for people who expressed interest in registering for NN4D." |
